Three more! Posted by ArthurS on Sep 04, 2013
Okay, I have an important, non-puppet project I have to do, so here are my latest.
First, I did that clown convention a few months ago. My stepfather helped me unload and load my stuff. Okay, he really did it since I had just had my leg crushed and was in a wheelchair. He was really interested in the clown stuff. So as a thanks, I bought him a pair of real, clown shoes. From that, he has joined a clown group and is having a blast. His chosen clown name is "ribbit", so he wants a frog. Here's his frog:
Here is just another one of my standards that will be for sale:
And here is one for me (with me):
This was my first attempt at silicon. In my opinion, its a faster drying, sticky, gooey, expensive mess that you can't paint or glue to. It came out very nice but I don't think I'll be using it again. It was also very shiny, but a coating of baby powder fixed that. I am happy with the results.
The teeth are cast latex and the golden material is Antron fleece. I also made a mechanism so his ears wiggle. He also has a club he holds (not pictured) that I was going to try in foam latex but ended up just doing in liquid latex. I'll try the foam on another project.
He is done more in a ventriloquist-style with the hand opening at the back of his neck. Instead of arm rods, he has sticks coming out where his elbow would be (ala Peanut) for the operator to maneuver.
This one I am keeping because if I ever get the guts to perform, I already have a partial routine thought out for him.
Okay, now to embroider some napkins... Sigh

Very cool new group of puppets. Love that you're father in law has gotten into clowning and his new puppet is a hoot... opps ribbit! You're new monster guy turned out really nice... Hey folks if you are on FB check out Authur's page https://www.facebook.com/PuppetsmithArts He has pictures of the process of building him.

Thanks Sean! Yeah, I'm going to suggest he name the frog "Rabbit" So they will be "Ribbit and Rabbit". Will create all kinds of silliness for little kids saying "he's not a rabbit, he's a frog!" "No, he's a rabbit! See? He hops! Here, let me show you, 'Hey rabbit, what's my name?" "Ribbit..."

Love that frog, and those teeth are great with pits in them with the random jaggedness. You just get better and better, and fast. I sure hope you make the show I want to see you in action. Hope your leg is better now.

Those puppets look great! Wish I'd be able to build a big guy like that.

ha ha, cool. Yes Arthurs, silicone is all of that. Great creations you have there. By the way, I met a really good armourer in the North Island of NZ. He showed me one of his gauntlets. You would be very impressed. spiked knuckles, fluted, and cold beaten. Also had some chain mail... very impressive.
