Hey, Krafty Karacters saying 'Hello' Posted by Krafty Karacters on Sep 18, 2013
Hi all,

My name is Danny from Brisbane, Australia and I am completely new to puppet building ... about 2 or so months.  I am a Star Wars fan and my story starts with a small Yoda plush toy my sister bought me for Christmas.  Quite often at night my wife and I lay in bed and read and Yoda sits on my bedside table.  Every now and then I would grab him and make him waddle over and start talking to my wife.  She became quite intrigued with Yoda as I made him talk and move and to be honest it gave me a little ego boost.  So after some time of this, I thought I would jump on ebay and see if I could buy a Yoda puppet, after the internet took over I found myself on youtube looking at vids of puppet building.  And at this point I have to give a huge shout out to Tom Stewart of The Creature Workshop.  I watched all of his vids on building the Roly Puppet several times and got totally motivated.  So that was it, no buying a Yoda, I'm going to build my own puppet!  So off I go, purchasing supplies and doing hours upon hours of research.  I first found the muppetcentral forum and proceeded to read every post on puppet building.  Found the Stiq Puppets vids next and watched all of those and then found Puppets and Stuff and I am currently 3/4 way through all of the puppet building posts.  I think this community is so generous with their information and supportive that I thought that I should join.

So here I am, I am actually in the process of my third puppet at the moment, and with every puppet I try to push myself further to learn and do things that I didn't do on the last puppet.  I don't get a great deal of time to devote to it, but I do as much as I can.  I will post shortly in the puppet building forum some pics and details of my first puppet.  My second,  I am not totally happy with, so am going to do some modifications before I present him to you all.  And as I mentioned the third is still in process...

Sorry for the rambling intro, however I would like to thank you all, as your posts have been an invaluable source of learning and motivation.  Thank you.

Cheers
Danny

Hey welcome to PandS! Starting to feel like the Australians are taking over.   Hmm... wonder if I could afford a trip down under? Hope that term is not offensive. Can't wait to check out your other post and see what you came up with.

Hehe, a handful of Aussies vs lots of Americans. Yeah, we're taking over all right

'Down under' isn't offensive I don't think. It's pretty commonly used here anyway. - You know you'd be more than welcome in my town!

Thanks guys, maybe one day I will be able to make it. I was kidding about the take over. I love that our little community is so international. Kind of makes me feel like I am traveling the globe!

You do know I like to poke fun

I too love the international vibe here, especially as it means we get a lot of information exchange based on different cultures and their puppets.
