Introducing 'Praccie' Posted by Krafty Karacters on Sep 18, 2013
Hi all, I would like to introduce to you my first puppet build 'Praccie' ( as in Practice... not very inventive.. I know)... he is made with the Roly Puppet Pattern from Project Puppet and with a great deal of guidance from Tom Stewarts youtube videos.  He is made with polar fleece, polyfoam, plastic spoons, felt and a styrofoam nose.  As this was first puppet and I haven't seen a needle and thread since I was in school about 20 years ago, I tried to learn as many different things as I could.  The head is hand sewed with the muppet stitch, the body and arms machine sewed and the body to the head were done with the whip stitch.

The funny thing is I built him because I liked playing with puppets or toys and making them move and talk but once Praccie was complete I had no idea who he was or how he sounded.  I gave him to my wife and she had him totally sorted within minutes.  She has a voice and personality for him that suits how he looks. He is quite shy, always feels tired but is funny and has a very cute laugh.  And now I have found that I am more interested in the build than the performing.  So as I move forward I really don't know what I will do with the puppets that I builld, but building them is fun and challenging.

...mmm... Ok... so I wanted some photos here, but I am new and I think I need to add them to my gallery first....  So hopefully I can put them in the next post....

Sorry, a couple of those photos are sideways, I don't know how to fix it,  if anybody knows, if they let me know I will sort it out.  Thanks.

hey, another Aussie! Welcome! And from Brisbane too - should introduce you to some Brissie people I know who do muppet-style stuff.... your puppets are great BTW!

Great puppet! There are many here who enjoy the building more then performance so you are not alone in that.

In regards to the images that are sideways, when you are viewing the image in the gallery you can choose Actions > Edit Photo.  Then click on the Modify Photo.  You'll see the buttons for rotate.  In this case I rotated the two of your images C 90° This will rotate and update the display in the Gallery but if you have already posted them in thread you have to go back in and Modify it so that it shows the new thumbnails.

Nice puppet! And I can totally relate! I'm addicted to the build but an uber crappy performer. Consequently, I have a garage filled to the brim with puppets! I hope you find a worthy cause for your future builds (sounds like your wife may have found a new niche?) and if not, enjoy them taking over your house Welcome. If you're ever traveling South to Coffs Harbour, give me a shout.

Very friendly look, good work. Performing in front of others will cause character to develop and flesh out more as he responds to what others like, it takes time.  He is so adorable even still.

Looks great! He has a great personality and the execution's already very good. Definitely a promising start imo
