Patches-- Eye suggestions Posted by TygerMin on Sep 26, 2013
I bought a variety of fabrics to work on puppet building, and seeing the scraps I had left gave me an idea. So I started working on Patches:
Few quick personal critiques: A few white places I need to cover, and I need to redo the inner mouth. The quilt pattern of the scraps messed with my seams....ok, looking at pics the seams are way off so more like first real puppet I am trying to make :D Also, he will be wearing a shirt, so I didn't maintain patches for the body.
Anyway, I can't seem to settle on eyes. Didn't like the look with ping pong balls, and am not sure if spoons would have the right look. Any suggestions?

What about one of each? A ping pong ball and a spoon eye. Everything else is mismatched so why not the eyes to? (worth a try at least)

I like the idea of mismatched eyes that Aaron gave!
Not sure what you mean about the seams being off. Since he is a patchwork, I think it is great that they show. In fact you could always take some yarn and use it to enhance the look of it being patchwork by making more obvious stitches!

I was referring to the seams of the mouth edges and mouth plate. Was way off lining that up. Was thinking of doing that with yarn! I have some purple yarn that would clash real good with this stuff And taking an idea from my dog, with one blue eye and one brown eye.

Decided to go with...well, I don't really know what this is. Started with pink foam eyes, but they were positioned wrong so I added additional foam and a new set of foam eyes.

Fun! They really carry through the patchwork idea.

You know, starting with a puppet that is supposed to look badly put together isn't a bad idea :D Love that mistakes are part of the character! Still have to rework the mouth, cover up the white, yarn stitch the patches, and give him some arms. Reading up on arm rods to determine the best way for that. Arms and hands will be less patchy, but might be comprised of 2 distinct pieces. Then a shirt to cover the leopard spotted body, and he will be perfect :D Though, thinking of adding some black to the orange pupil.

The eyes you chose really add a lot to the puppet. Great decision.
Would love to see this puppet camouflaged in a pile of clothes. I don't know why. Just thought it would be interesting.
