Wondered if anyone has seen it/heard anything from people who use it? I think it's an interesting concept, but I'm not sure how easy it would be to find people who would want to regularly send payments. I think most people would be more inclined to do a one-off payment, even if a subscription is $1 a month or whatever.

A friend of mine pointed that site out to me a few days ago. I agree it's an interesting concept but I haven't had the time to look into it as thoroughly as I want to as of yet. I think for a (lack of better label) "Puppet" type market it would really depend on your personal marketing choices. I could see films and that sort fitting well in there as I saw a lot of film based artists there but I'm curious what the responses would be to a simple "see what I can build" type set up or even a build to sell style marketing would bring.

I want to do films some day and that might be a good avenue down the road but I can't see a ton of investments coming my way as I stand now just building to build.

The place I found it was for a web cartoon series. I think in all likelihood a subscription-based campaign makes more sense for someone who is publishing regular content - like cartoons or video series - but not so much for those of us doing one-off products or performances. Actually I can see it working really well for people who do perform year-round, or at least seasonally, since it's just a technologically advanced version of theatre subscriptions.

For myself I'm not sure if the site would work for what I plan. Although I hope to produce a series of books, as well as other things, I can't see someone buying a subscription for such content. I think also a site like that is more heavily dependent on already having a regular content schedule and/or fan base; whereas other campaign sites are a bit more skewed to the casual fan or newcomer.

Still, it's worth considering because instead of having $X coming in at one point in time you can have $X amount coming in on a regular basis. It might actually be worth looking at how to combine campaigns from both ends of the spectrum: a 'normal' campaign to raise initial funds for the project, then a 'subscription' campaign to catch the long-tail (drop-off of sales after launch) and keep a steady flow coming in.

... Food for thought.
