Moonshine Raccoon Posted by Shunaka on Sep 29, 2013
Just finished 'Moonshine Raccoon'.  He's a hillbilly type who's too smart for his own good, needless to say trouble follows him everywhere.

Moonshine is a stage puppet, about 25 inches tall.  The armrods are detachable and made of carbon fiber rod.

Looks good - my only comment is that the hands look a bit unfinished and floppy.

Very cool!  I love that his mask is irregular.... don't know if that was intentional or not but really gives him character.  He has a great smile on him.  I will say the hands did stick out to me also. I think it is the fabric they are made of but have know idea what would be an alternative.   Gee I was a big help... not!

Hi Na,

Thanks for the comment! The hands have been a bit of problem, the ones he has now are the third version so far.  The fingers are wired but the fabric is black muslin, so it doesn't take much to knock them out of shape.  Thinking of using good old black fleece for the next version.

Thanks Shawn, glad you like him. =)  In my style of building, I don't mind a little asymmetry, I think it gives the character..character.

The pattern is my own, but it's really just a round head pattern with the front cut off.  I then added carved foam pieces to the muzzle and side of the head to shape it.

Looks like I need to do up a tutorial on pattern making!  I'll be starting on a new project soon so I might do that. I'll post a link when I have that going.

Couldn't be simpler! The eyes are shaped plastic spoons colored using Sharpies.  I hot glued small machine screws to the back, poked it through the fabric and bolted it. That's it!

Yeah, the wired hands probably don't look so good if you use a fabric that won't hide the wrinkles and faults.

You never cease to amaze me with your incredible puppets! Awesome work, love this character. Hopefully I get to see him or others close-up at a SFBAPG meeting!
