Female serval puppet - Savannah Posted by Tioh on Oct 06, 2013

Savannah is a hand puppet that I built for the Eurofurence Pawpet Show 2013. She's about 1m tall. The body of the puppet is mostly made of foam and hollow inside. The muzzle is played with the hand of the puppeteer. The eyelids and ears are moveable - they are controlled via Bowden cables.

The puppet can be played through the back of the neck or through the body.

The arms and legs are equipped with flexible joints. The hands have a bendable steel wire inside and are connected to aluminum rods.

Lots of pictures with some instructions (it's in Germany - sorry I haven't had the time to translate it yet):

Furvan helped when cutting and glueing the fur. The spots were sprayed on with an airbrush by TaniDaReal. The eyes were painted by Pan HesekielShiroi.

Awesome work Tioh! Love the face expression.  Have there been any posting of the show?

Just lovely.  Thanks for he link to all of the process photos.  Might I ask what is the grey medium you used to mold the top of the head and bridge of the nose.  Also the light blue substance used to mold the lower lip and in a few other area?

The gray material is plastic - Polycaprolactone, a biodegradable polyester with a low melting point of around 62°C.
Some brand-names for similar materials: Hand Moldable Plastic, Mold-Your-Own Grips, InstaMorph, Shapelock, Friendly Plastic, Polymorph or Plaast.

That looks great!  Love the detail.  As a newbie to...well...building, I am curious about the black mesh.  What type of material is that?

The black plastic-mesh is sold as "poly-net leaf guard system" - http://www.marley-germany.com/en/products/gutter_systems/equipment/poly_net_leaf_guard_system/index.htm - it's normally used to filter leaves out of rainwater so that they do not get stuck in the guttter. It's a very strong plastic mesh that does not break - you can cut it with strong scissors.
