Progress! Posted by Lizzies Lair on Oct 09, 2013
Hey P&Sians,

I wanted to share a personal victory in my puppet building development and figured this was the place to do it... This project was a double whammie for me, firstly because it was my first puppet made from a fabric that has absolutely NO stretch and secondly, unlike almost every other thing I've made for yonks, it's small!

It sounds stupid, but ever since learning of the draping method, I've used it exclusively instead of working from my foam pattern. In hindsight, I have no idea why I did that! Due to the fact that I had no give in the fabric I actually created a pattern from my foam pattern for this one and lo and behold, it was dead easy! One of those groan, 'Duh, I'm such a loser'    moments but monumentous none the less! Huzzah for progress!

Wow, great work!  I like the fabric, what is it?  I really dig the detail and all of the shapes... the shape of the head, the arms and the body (I love the belly!) That is a very cute Dragon.  Does he/she have a name?
Re: Progress! Posted by Lizzies Lair on Oct 09, 2013
Cheers Krafty. No name as yet - just Baby Dragon. I can't even tell you what the fabric is. It's kind of similar to a velvet or suede but no where near as thick and then it has a leathery snake skin like surface coupled with dyed mottling. That doesn't help does it?! It was from Spotlight if that helps...

Looks Fantastic Lizzie

That's fantastic - I think that's your best puppet so far. I hope you don't mind me saying, but I think it also benefits from going smaller; you're others, although good, seem to feel a bit less refined. Maybe it's just me and the puppets are ganglier or held at awkward poses, but this feels to me like the design is more restrained. ($0.2 cents)

Very well done! He/She is so cute!

Yep often the same pattern used for your foam can work for the fabric. I think with people puppets since the foam often has a center seam down the face folks drape so you don't get the seam there. In this case you really where not going to be able to really hide the seams so having them in "natural" places makes sense.

Job well done!

So, so, soooo cute.  Yes, i'm hooked on the draping method as well.  I still use the pattern method for puppets we will reproduce.

Thanks for the feedback Na

You're welcome! Although I think my feedback would have been better without the typo

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with next.
