Casting for Syfy's new show? Posted by yalaurie on Oct 10, 2013
Anyone heard anything on casting for this?

I am guessing it already is in production, but if not, would be fun to give it a shot.

(Also, I didn't know what forum this belonged in so if it needs to be moved, let me know.)

Ahh yes this has already been cast. We had a couple members who tried out for it but not sure if they made it or not. Even if they did, I doubt they would be able to tell us much since these shows normally try to keep things under wraps till it is aired.  At the time the call wen't out they didn't even have a name or what network it was going to be on. I figured it was going to be on SyFy but had no idea they where going to involve Brian and the Creature Shop. Pretty cool!

Here is the link to the post where it was first announced back in August. http://puppetsandstuff.com/community/index.php/topic,8262.0.html

Very cool! Thanks for sharing. I can't wait to watch it now. Hopefully some folks from here will make an appearance.

I auditioned but never heard back from them, oh well I guess. They were looking for people who are very well rounded in puppetry crafts, one of the things was latex/silicon and animatronic work which i sadly have no experience. Hope this comes to the air and if it's successful enough just audition again. I think the contract said they are starting to film the end of this month to december

I had a suspicion it would include animatronics - I guess they're trying to make it less 'puppets=kids' and more appealing to adults.

Sorry to hear you didn't get called back!

According to Andrew, Gigi Edgley (from 'Farscape') will be hosting the show:

I'm so happy, we recently got a new cable account and SyFy comes with it, so I may just be able to watch the show here after all!

I too auditioned but never heard back.  The impression I got was when they said 'puppets' they were meaning like Jabba the Hutt, the apes from Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Narnia, etc.

Yep. Not surprised they're aiming for animatronics, since as I said the appeal would be to mostly those into tv/film special effects. Which is a pity because of course theres more to puppetry than that stuff.

This was definitely aimed at animatronics. I know of a fellow builder who did get in the show but then opted out before shooting due to its huge commitment and the fact that he had 130+ orders on the burner and they told him that he would not be able to have much contact with his young family so thought it wasnt right for him right now. Think his business is doing just fine without it anyway.
