Bringing a puppet to a theme park Posted by Mr. Magilwood on Oct 11, 2013
I'm going on vacation next week to Orlando and I am contemplating whether or not to bring my puppet Grovel with me to a few parks I'm visiting. I am going to Epcot, Universal, and Sea World. I don't want to be thrown out of the park or worse have Grovel confiscated from me. Any thoughts?

Go for it. They will probably think you work there.

Some theme parks can get a bit testy about what they consider "outside entertainers" working their park- even if it's just for fun. My advise; ask first before taking your puppet out in the park.

Er, I wouldn't... they may consider it bad form considering they pay people to walk around as attractions - may be seen as trying to make money on their dime as it were. If you need a permit for busking (as most places do require one) then I would think it just as likely, if not more so, that a private park would require permission to do the same. Whether you're planning on performing with it or not.
IANAL, but maybe you should consult one or at least look to see if Disney has terms and conditions about entry.

Always safer to ask, but why do you want to bring him? If its for simple photo taking, and you only pull him out for a photo and put him back, then I don't think they would have a problem. If its more for performign and interacting, then that will be a definite no.

I've worked for Disney. They won't let that fly. It's best to leave him in the hotel room. I can't speak for Universal or Sea World. But, leave him at the hotel for Disney for sure.

I pretty much want to take some photos of him in like the Epcot countries maybe with a few characters too. I don't want to work the crowd at all. I have seen people before bring their stuffed animals/statues and what not for picture taking. My biggest worry is Disney

Keep him in your bag, only pull him out for pictures, and you might be ok. However, you will risk the chance of being told not to bring him out of your bag again. That will fully depend from cast member to cast member.

i was thinking about this too.... i wa thinking about bringing my Dobby the house elf puppet with to universal for personal photos with him in the theme park... maybe i shouldnt now

If you just want to take personal photos it should be ok. Thing is remember you have to keep track and haul him around the entire time. Personally I would rather enjoy the parks without the worry of having to keep track of things. For example what happens when you all want to go on a ride and there is no room for you bags.
