Not a perfect solution, but a solution that takes very little time and costs very little money!

Snapper Rods.

Nice (and very creative) solution. Thanks!

Great little tip! Nice finished look.

In regards to the floppy ness of the hand, a quick addition would be to take two pieces of heavy  fabric or leather and cut them them just a bit smaller then the palm of the hand. Then glue them "around" the finial. This gives you a flat semi stiff piece you could embed inside the hand. Only draw back is that you would have to open up the side seam more to get in the hand or plan ahead when you are sewing up the hand and insert it then. This should give you more control over the hand. Ive done this even with wire rods and it works pretty good.

Great idea, Shawn! I could also cut a 1/4" to 1/2" groove into the bulb-end of the finial and glue the leather or stiff fabric into that. Hmmm ...

Yep that could work and would be pretty solid.
