Puppet # 3.... Gabe.... Posted by Krafty Karacters on Nov 05, 2013
So here is my third puppet.. I finished him some weeks ago. Once again I just wanted to push myself a bit further and challenge myself with a few more 'firsts'... So this is the first human puppet I have built, the first ears, the first foam body, the first body ring, the first time using spray adhesive in conjunction with the draping method (thanks to stiq puppets vids), and probably a few other firsts that aren't coming to mind right now. I am fairly happy with him. It is kind of strange though, when I finish a puppet I get a short burst of fulfilment but then all my thoughts are about the 'next' puppet.... He was good fun to build though.
As for the character... this is 'Gabe'.. he is suffering a bit of a mid life crisis and maybe thinks he is just a bit cooler than he really is. He considers himself a bit of a ladies puppet and models his whole image on bad guys from the 80's TV show Miami Vice. Needless to say he is in complete need of a reality check, but believe me when I tell you that he doesn't listen to me!

Awesome job Krafty! I'm really digging Gabe. He just oozes character - admittedly be it the kind of character I run from in real life! You definitely nailed this one dude.

That's called creativity. Or as most people would put it: it's not the destination, but the journey
He looks great! How did you do the eyes?

Thank you all for your comments.
Na, I like your words. I guess it is creativity, I don't really have the confidence to label myself creative, I kind of reserve that for people with more of an artistic output, like Lizzies Lair for example, when I look at the pics of her puppets I think 'artist', when I look at my stuff I think 'Kindergarten' haha,. But I guess at the end of the day as you say, its not the destination or output but more the journey or experience.
As for the eyes, the pupils are straight out of spotlight, attached to plastic spoons and dressed up with some felt and fleece.
