I've been gone a while. Posted by ArthurS on Nov 15, 2013
Wow. Seems a long time since I made it here. Been really busy! Lots of puppet builds and some conventions. Also doing a craft Fair in a week. So here's an update.
It started with Crypticon Minneapolis. A horror convention that I had a booth at. This one ended up REALLY fun. I took a line of zombie puppets as well as a bunch of others and did really well. One puppet I made was a Jason puppet which I got Derek Mears (who played Jason in the 2009 movie) to sign. I got a comission from a 'zombie vampire rapper' to make a look-alike of him for music videos, and a commission from an actor that played a Gamorrean Guard in Return of the Jedi to do a Gamorrean Guard for him. I also added some cheap, moving mouth puppets that sold fairly well. Heck, I sold two to Billy Dee Williams! lol All-in-all a GREAT con. Here are some pics:
I applied for but never heard back on that reality show. I think they were looking more for 'puppets' like Jabba the Hutt than Kermit the Frog. But here is my entry. I sculpted it in clay, made a plaster mold and cast it in latex. I have always been a builder, but this one has inspired me to possibly step out and perform... maybe... If I get the guts... lol
After that I did a booth at a zombie walk with minimal results. Then I did a local comic convention. Again a fun time and broke even. But got our name out a bit. For this one I did a bunch of costumed character puppets. Sold the 'Superman' one to Scott Lobdell who is one of the writers for the Superman Comics. Here are some pictures:
Up next is a craft fair. Yikes! Not sure on the market for this one. I made more of the smaller moving mouth puppets and added finger puppets.
I am also working on a new one for myself and a look alike puppet of my tattoo guy. See, I want to get a big, upper arm tat of my favorite Muppets and I'm hoping he'll give me a discount for a puppet of himself! lol We'll see...
Finally, I am helping with a new Puppet convention to take place in Des Moines, Iowa May 15-17, 2014. The guy I call my mentor is putting it on. I will just be doing a lot of the ground work since he tours most the year. We are looking at having 7-10 Nationally and internationally known Puppeteers at it. Its going to be awesome!! Hope to see many of you there!
Sorry about the absence, hopefully I'll be on more!
Blessings... Arthur

Sounds like all your work has been worth it! I really like the Tardis, I've not seen anyone do one before, and it came out really well.

Wow love the tardis and super heroes. How do you get all this done?
Re: I've been gone a while. Posted by ArthurS on Nov 16, 2013
Thanks all.
I get them done via a healthy dose of ADD! I'm a big opponent of ADD drugs. There are ways to deal with the negatives without loosing the awesome positives of it. To me, it is no "disorder" but a blessing!
