Meet Rufus Posted by The Puppet Workshop on Nov 27, 2013
Hi All,
I have just finished a build that I am super proud of and just wanted to share with all you talented people who understand and appreciate all things puppet!
This is Rufus, hes a Live hand puppet with blinking mech. And stands about 80cm from head to end of torso. Debating if to make some removable legs to make him able to convert into a vent puppet aswell.

Oh wow! Rufus is super awesome! He has so much character and the fur is perfect - awesome job! As for the legs, I say a definite yes. All these half bodied puppets make me a little sad.

He looks amazing. Love the tuft of lighter fur on his chest. The delight is in the details.

Yeah I think I agree Lizzie, I have enough fur left over for the legs I just have to drum up the energy to make a cool pattern for them. Thanks for the kind words. Im a bit chuffed with myself just quietly LOL

Wow, he is so very very cool!! I am completely in awe. The fur is beautiful. And a blinking mech as well, thats awesome. What did you use for the teeth and the tongue? Fantastic work, love it!

Fantastic work, love it!On this one because I was impatient to finish him I used polymer clay for his teeth and tongue. However usually I cast them in a polymer resin. His nose is cast polymer resin. I make a master from monster clay and mould in silicone and cast in resin. Super hard and long wearing and you can replicate. Thanks for your kind words. Cheers

Wow, that is one great dog! The nose is so awesome, and really quite worth the use of polymer, it just adds that extra X facter. The eyebrows I assume are part of the blinking mech?

Being that the nose is a usefull part it was def worth making a mould for future puppets. Funny thing is I made the nose months ago before I decided to make this puppet. Weird way of doing things but it worked out great.

Is he for a client? No, he is a just cause I can kinda puppet. Wanted to make something with the fur which I purchased some time ago. Had started making a foam dog head some time ago and put aside to build some orders and finish some musicals props. Picked it up again and decided to make some drastic changes. Over a couple of weeks...wa la....Rufus was born! Rufus is up for sale on my Etsy store and if he doesnt sell i may let him hang out here for a little bit or ebay. Have a regular client whos eyeing him off at moment. So will see what happens. Not fussed really either way.

He really is great! So much expression in his face. Love how the ears lay on his head. Job well done!
