Re: Facebook Help Posted by Na on Jan 05, 2014
I know what it is: the URL does not include the /pages/ part. I have tried searching again and it appeared. Shawn's probably right, it was probably a matter of waiting for it to show up in the search results after creation.

I knew I could count on you guys. You are all awesome!
Thanks Tygerhawks, I was able to change the URL. Should I have put it in all lower case?
Shawn, thanks for sharing us on P&S Facebook. I visited it for a moment. It looks great. Need to find more time to look into it deeper.
Another question. If someone 'Likes' the Out of the Box Puppets page, will they now receive all new posts? I was hoping to use the page for sales and announcements. Currently our old site doesn't support mass emails for sales and i don"t have the time to do something like mail chimp. Hopefully the new site (not Facebook) will make it easier.
Secondly, I posted three things and people have commented or liked them, but I can only see them from the admin side. When i go to my timeline or maybe it's news feed nothing shows up.

Julie,
Not all likers of your FB page will receive all your post. Usually the people who have had recent contact with your page or it also depends on how they set up their own personal news feed should get posts. You can encourage them to be notified of all alerts you can do this by telling them to:
hover mouse over the "liked" icon at top of your page > get notifications > Show in news feed > All Updates
Unfortunately this is usually to hard for likers to do but its worth a try. I find that the hit rate for organic posts and announcements is about 50% unless you want to pay FB for advertising.
P.S I joined your page last night to add to the numbers for you

As Shannon says, if someone likes the FB page they will see your updates but not necessarily automatically. It's one of the reasons why I am moving away from using FB: I found that adding an email subscription for my RSS feed on my website and in my email signature far increased my readership as compared to using FB. I get more hits and comments that way too. The main difference: an email automatically goes out to people and goes right where they read it, instead of having to convince them to check in on FB to see your updates.
This is why I meant there's a lot of extra work for social networks. You not only have to keep them updated, but keep an influx of new people to see it, plus find ways to keep the old people visiting. So much work and it's not even marketing your own site, but your own FB page. I think this is why people have strategies of using FB as a gimmick to offer discounts in exchange for likes. It gives people a reason to visit regularly.

Social plugins are your best friends. Add the code to your website:
https://developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins/like-button
(That link is to the like button, but you'll find other things in the sidebar on the left)
Can I just insert that link into my homepage on the admin side of my website? And will it take people to the Out of the Box Puppets Page?

Julie,
Yes you could just add a link to your FB page on your home page if you wanted to but if you want to use the "code" available via the developer page then you need to add a bit more. You would have to be able to add HTML to your site via the admin section. Right now you are using Cube Cart and not sure if it allows you to add HTML blocks are not. Most CMS or Carts do allow it now though.
For now I would just add the link to your FB page, but read through the developers page that Na posted. You can actually do more then just ad Like buttons on your site. Notice on the left column under Social Links there are other things. Also since you are getting a new website, I assume that maybe you are changing the program you use to administer it. It may be that your new system will have built into it support for FB stuff. Actually not sure if it is more important to have them for your FB pages as it is for your regular site. Granted that is what I've done on our home page here but many folks do the opposite. They create the share links on their main site that shares the info on their site over at FB. So if I had that set up here (really should do this on PandS) and someone was reading a forum thread that they really liked they could easily click a button here and share it over at FB on their timeline. That really does you more good because it might get FB readers to come to your actual site.
