Hey everyone. The website switch went well.  The new site is open for business.  Unfortunately since the previous site was soooo old the customer data did not transfer. Please register on the new site.  Out of the Box Puppets

Looks good! Much better then the old site I would say. Check for typos when you have time. Your selling Lg Half Dome Eyes that are Blacklgith http://outoftheboxpuppets.com/index.php?_a=product&product_id=124

Na mentioned this in the other thread but thought I would re-post here.  You should use http://www.addthis.com/ to link into the social sites. Makes it easy for folks to share your products on FB, Twitter etc.

Looks good. One thing I would suggest is to pick one or two font families and one or two font formats (bold, italics, etc) and stick with it. It just makes the site look messy. Comic Sans is an over-used font too.

The other thing you might want to do is add your own favicon. This is a little image that appears in the browser. If you look up to the top of the browser page you can see a mini version of the P&S logo. That's this site's favicon.
You can create one here out of any image you like, then upload the resulting file to your file system (in the root, aka, the top level of your folders, usually where the index file is).

I'd also consider adding the name of the site near where your logo is at the top of the page. Not everyone 'reads' images.

I like that you have a mobile version: did you have to do anything special to create it?

Thanks Na. I'll add these to my need to learn/to do list. As you can tell I haven't gotten around to the other suggestions. LOL

The mobile version created it's self based on the desktop version.  I've played with it some. I don't like that you can't see the homepage info and it seems when you coose a product with multiple photos, such as examples of color options, it only shows the main photo.  We discovered thos yesterday, so I need to check it.  Might just be a setting I'm missing.  A customer told me it worked well on her IPhone...automatically switched to mobile version.  She said it was easier to use than most mobile versions she'd been on.  I don't have much experience with mobile version because i always switch to desktop version (even on my IPad) since i really don't like the way mobile versions. To me it takes way more time to locate products since you have to know what you are looking for. Just my opinion.

Just a note...the favicons don't show up on my IPad, but i do know what you are talking about.

I wouldn't mess with your mobile version too much.  Like you, I agree that I kind of hate that mobile versions are so stream lined. The reason for that is because mobile also means phone... Lots of folks do use their phones to get on the internet and the screen real estate is very limited. Also they are often accessing it over a phone network that limits data or slows down the down load. That would be a reason why you would not want all the versions of the product on the page. Having them all could slow down the display of the page so they lost interest and simply closed the page.  Know I've done it before when I used my phone.   Not saying you might not want to tweak it some but remember what it is there for.

That's ok. I learned most of this stuff myself over the years. It just takes a little time and trial and error sometimes.

The mobile version created it's self based on the desktop version.

That's what I thought. It's neat how that comes inbuilt. I don't think there's an easy way to do that for mine because the blog platform I use doesn't know how to do things like that. I wish it did.

I've played with it some. My guess about the photos on mobile is because it takes up a lot of data to download them. I've been teaching myself about designing for mobiles and what I've read suggests that because photos are large and can usually eat up a lot of your data plan, that it's best to have few photos/small photos on your mobile page. But if your mobile version is created automatically, there's no easy way to reduce the actual image size (ie. file size not height and width) so it could be that instead it uses fewer images. The good thing is you can switch back and forth between desktop and mobile, so if the mobile user feels left out they can always choose to use the more data-heavy version which is the desktop one.

For mobiles too, the less stuff you have on the page the easier it is to use - just the nature of having less space to put stuff and having smaller fonts fitting in that tiny space. I agree that your mobile version doesn't look as pretty, but on the smaller screen it would look easier to use.

I'm currently contemplating what to do with a website I just finished redesigning because it's image heavy. I either have to reduce the number of photos for the mobile version, or not show them at all and have a link to the desktop version to swap between them.

Just a note...the favicons don't show up on my IPad, but i do know what you are talking about.

Yes favicons are only for desktops. Anyway, there's something else you can do for mobiles
You know how there are images for each app you have? You can actually save a website to your ipad/phone in the same way ('add to home screen' on the safari browser options). If you try my site http://littleboxbiguniverse.com and add it to your home screen, you should get my purple logo appearing once it's saved.

But that's another trick for another day

Nice site and such great puppets.  I love that two tone hair on Tommy, but your opossum is still my favorite.  Hope you get lots of orders.
