Reclaiming my sanity Posted by Lizzies Lair on Mar 03, 2014
Hey P&Sians,

So the last puppet I made was quite literally late last year. Between the monotony of real world activities (work predominantly) and the holiday period, I just haven't found the time to get my puppet on. Turns out that without a creative outlet, I am not a functional human being. Can't seem to be able to switch off from the stresses of the world unless I'm focused on a totally self indulgent creative project. Also turns out I am somewhat psychotic without regular access to this outlet. Can anyone relate or am I truly odd?

In any case, I decided this weekend enough was enough. Got up at sparrows on Saturday morning and got my puppet on hermit style all day, ignoring all distractions. Not a bad end for a days work and oh my goodness, I feel normal again!

I even took some pics along the way inspired by the immensely talented Julie - not quite the journey she gave us all but at least I could share some "behind the scenes" with my Facebook likers.

Hope your respective worlds are insanely creative but sanely manageable.

Welcome to my world. You'll find the t-shirts on the left, and fancy mugs on the right. Don't forget to tip your waitress.
At the moment I'm in the mind-numbing world of web design, which is more fun when you're actually designing and not just code-picking for bugs.

Love the wolf. The blood is awesome, makes it seem like something out of a Grimm tale. Hmmm... that took you one day? Man, I'm jealous. It normally takes weeks to get something looking that good.

He's awesome!  Great stuff!  I made one werewolf and got it signed by Lon Chaney's grandson.   Not a vampire fan here.  Love the werewolves!

Great job!! Love it!! & yes, I know how you feel. I have so many hobbies & can't seem to give them up. & when I have to set them aside for life's unfun stuff like work, I'm not a happy hammock camper {yes, one of my many hobbies. LOL!}

Thanks guys. So pleased to be among like minded creative types who know what its like to be taken over by the that infamous urge! Bill, pardon my ignorance but what is a hammock camper??

I would love to see your werewolf Arthur if you have pics?

Na, I have nooo idea how you do what you do. I just wouldn't have the patience but I'm so glad you do as you're a wealth of knowledge and resources - thank you for going above and beyond so we can reap the benefits. Yep, wolfie was a day - started at 5am and finished about 10pm. Sometimes it takes me lots longer but most are pretty brief. I guess it just depends how desperately I need to create something. If I'm focused I can usually smash a puppet out pretty quickly. If I'm not entirely sure what I'm making or my heads not in it and I make endless mistakes, it takes a lot longer. This one I got lucky as I had all the materials lying around and it just sorta came together of it's own accord. How goes life in Melbs?

Thanks. Although I'm really not patient, I just make a good pretense of it

I think I'm feeling jealous right now because the more boring something is, the longer it takes me to do. I wish I had your headspace to just sit down and knock it out. Even my latest creative project that I wanted to do is not happening because I lost some of the materials somehow and don't have the time to get new stuff

Things here are... well, dull.

I think that's the way of things Na. At Uni, the subjects I hated went FOREVER where as the others I actually enjoyed I'd cruise through. I learned a long time ago to get all the dull, nasty stuff out of the way so you can really sink your teeth in and enjoy the good things. I hope you can smash it out quickly and place some guilt free focus on your new creative project. As for the focus, yes, I guess on Saturday it was present but only as a result of months of truly horrific hours at work and responsibility for a stupid amount of staff and their associated issues. Escapism is the only real option sometimes. So focused yes, but only because if I didn't switch off to everything else I may have been found hanging from my ceiling. I really hope you find the time to channel your inner hermit.
