Arthur! He is wickedly awesome! I just love him! I particularly like his side profile - you definitely nailed the design. So he's a glove puppet? I've never made one before. How do they work? Do you need two people to operate the mouth and hands or is only one hand a glove?
Re: Reclaiming my sanity Posted by ArthurS on Mar 05, 2014
I don't make many glove puppets either.  But they are funfun and you can get so much expression out of them.  Generally, one puppeteer runs the mouth and one hand.  A second can run the other hand or not.  There is a great interview of Henson with Rowlf on the Arsenio Hall Show.  Rowlf is wearing a sling and Arsenio asks him what happened.  Rowlf sarcastically explains the mechanics of it, pointing out that he is in the sling because Jim only has two hands.

I think that's the way of things Na. At Uni, the subjects I hated went FOREVER where as the others I actually enjoyed I'd cruise through.

For me, it's the "sitting at a desk all day" thing. I am *not* good at sitting there on a computer all day. Much prefer to be making things.

I learned a long time ago to get all the dull, nasty stuff out of the way so you can really sink your teeth in and enjoy the good things. I hope you can smash it out quickly and place some guilt free focus on your new creative project.

Oh yes, that's what I do too. The trouble at the moment is one of concentration and various other mental/health issues. It slows me down to a snail's pace, which means the dull and nasty is dragging on for months, or in some cases, years, at a time. The pressure to get things done within a deadline is not helping, since I can't force my brain to work 'normally'. Anywho, not to derail, but I too hope this can be done asap.

As for the focus, yes, I guess on Saturday it was present but only as a result of months of truly horrific hours at work and responsibility for a stupid amount of staff and their associated issues. Escapism is the only real option sometimes. So focused yes, but only because if I didn't switch off to everything else I may have been found hanging from my ceiling. I really hope you find the time to channel your inner hermit.

I can understand. I have trouble taking time off and have recently instigated an email reminder to force myself to create a weekend. I just had my 'weekend' with a couple of days of blissing out doing nothing. It really does help cleanse the palate to just dive into something completely for a day or two.

Heh, the inner hermit... I like that!

Did you just diss a snail!  "Slow and steady wins the race."

Lizzie, one day, I am so jealous.  If I only had one day all to myself.  He is so fun.  I don't know how you come up with so many great unique designs, it is amazing.  Hope you get more puppet breaks soon.

i know. However, there are cases where that isn't true. Such as spending more time on a project than you are getting paid for - a lot more time.

Awesome work LL. I can't believe you can produce something of this quality (or anything at all ) in a day. I dig that it brings sanity to your world , building def balances me out. If I can get 3-4 hours a week it feels pretty good (more is obviously better), but at that rate it takes me weeks and weeks to produce a finished product. I recognised some time ago that I am just a slow worker, which can be great because ill take the time to lean a new technique, but bad because I don't get the fulfilment of completing a build regularly which can lead to lapses in motivation. Anyways, well done, I look forward to seeing your next puppet.

Another Great Puppet Lizzie, He’s just awesome. /
Me well I have and can knock them out in a day. However I seldom do that as i always make proper patterns for all my own characters. This is a full foam pattern with full fur/fleece patter aswell as I do not sculpt but create contours and characters heads from sheet foam which in my opinion is much harder. What I love about this is it actually enables you to reproduce a puppet with great accuracy over and over. Because of this my first and original builds usually take days or weeks off and on as Im seldom solely working on a new build and always squeeze some time on one in between tonnes of orders.
Keep it up and heres to another “All for you" day soon. Yay!

....Bill, pardon my ignorance but what is a hammock camper??.........

Hi Lizzie. Sorry to leave you in the dark about what a hammock camper is. & I'm just SURE it's been keeping you up nights wondering! LOL! A hammock camper is as it sounds. Someone who camps in a hammock instead of a tent. Mine has a zippered moskito netting I can keep the pesky bugs away with. It's made of parachute nylon, & fits in a small sack, weighing only 16 ounces! Pure BLISS when you get the hang of it! Ok. Now you can sleep nights knowing all that.
