Help on patterns etc Posted by Gambit2978 on Mar 25, 2014
Hi all

I am new on here I haven't yet made a puppet but hoping to soon. I am also auditioning for Avenue Q. But my question is on patterns can anyone tell me what pattern Animal is I have got a few from project puppet. Also what material is he made from the feathery bits? I live in London uk. So any tips or details of suppliers etc would be greatfully received. I will post when I finish first puppet.

I would say the closest Project Puppet patterns would be Roly or Mostro. It would have something similar to Hoby Fords blinking eye mech integrated into it. http://www.hobeyford.com/files/hndppteyes.JPG  Not normally a project for a new puppet builder.   Best to start with one of the basic patterns first to see how things work.

For supplies you can check out http://www.mermibridg.co.uk/. Wyohming  is a member here but has not visited for some time. She is also involved in doll building pretty heavily but carries some puppet supplies on here site. At one time she even had Antron fleece. She also mentioned she purchased foam at Pentonville rubber in London in one thread a while back.  There is a UK based on-line foam store. http://www.efoam.co.uk/  Check your local hobby, fabric and upholstery stores for the foam they may carry.

It probably isn't clear from Shawn's post.... but there's no 'Animal' pattern available. It's a copyrighted design so you won't find a pattern for it. Best you can do is make something similar from patterns like what's at Project Puppet.

Thanks Shawn & Na I wasn't going to go straight into trying to make an animal I was just wondering what shape the head would be for later on from project puppet.I thought it would be a copyrighted design. I will have a look re the links you posted. Thanks for the supply details. Will post when I can but work and auditioning keeping me busy at moment

Apologies for assuming. Most people don't realise and ask for the specific pattern used in the Muppets. Good luck with it!
