Haven't tried gasket rubber yet.  What they sold me at O'Reily's Auto Supply just seems flimsy.

Just FYI, gasket rubber comes in a variety of thicknesses and densities.

Thanks Andrew. I will ask again but when I go into the auto stores they just don't seem to know what I'm talking about and since I don't really know either, I ended up with a roll that is gray and flimsy.
