Melonhead project puppet Posted by Joelobermyer on Apr 28, 2014
Meet Murray,
Just finished his head and working on the arms. The mouth plate is leather with leather finger holds, much more flexible than wood and not too soft. The eyes are styrofoam wrapped with  polar fleece stitched to the head.

I like the eyes and detail around them. Leather is great for mouth plates I think. Like you have found it leaves them flexible so you can do more with facial expressions.

Thank you. The tongue is made with that poly clay you bake, and painted with flat red model paint.

Great looking puppet. I have no experience with poly clay. I will have to try to find some and have a play. I think the tongue looks great.

He's cool. Did you have much trouble stopping the cloth  wrinkling as you pulled it around over the eyeballs? I find that tricky. Do you have  any  tips to  get it right?
