I have ordered and downloaded the Roly pattern from Project Puppet.

I have also ordered and am waiting for the Punto pattern with fleece head covering.

I have never tried to make a puppet before!! (See introduction for reasons for trying).

Any hints, tips, general pointers to a total newbie with no experience would be fantastic.

I too am new at this, I just started about a month or so ago and started with the Roly project puppet pattern.  YouTube puppet making tutorials, follow the instructions and just have fun with it. This site is a wonderful resource for hints, opinions and what not. I just bought the Melonhead and pinhead patterns. The Punto looks like a blast!

"The Creature Works" has an awesome step by step youtube tutorial on building the roly pattern.
