FINALLY FINISHED! music video with monsters Posted by historianhimself on May 03, 2014
Hi everybody, sorry I haven't posted on here in quite a while, I've been busy finishing this music video, which features a couple puppets I built, and is the first in a series of 3 videos that will all feature puppeted monsters. The creatures you see in this video were handmade from cheap, readily available materials, many of which i pulled out of dumpsters, or collected from nature. I hope they get you excited about your own projects and what can be done on a relatively tiny budget.

Let me know what you think, and if you like it I hope you will share it with your friends, especially those that are puppet or practical creature effects enthusiasts... Thanks!

-Brian

Very impressive. You creatures really look great on camera!  I remember your post when you where making them.

Some great locations!  Videography is wonderful.

So would this be considered rap? I am think there is an older term for this style of song/story telling but can't remember what it is. I really like it.

I really enjoyed this video. I normally wouldn't listen to this style of music but I think the video really added an extra dimension to the track. I think you matched to mood and pacing really well with the video.

Also, the location is astounding. I wish we had landscapes like that in Australia. It makes me excited that winter will be here shortly though (for us in the southern hemisphere at least).

Thanks, glad yall like it!

re; "So would this be considered rap?" yes. Rapping is defined as speaking lyrics over a beat. Underground hip hop has a history of diverse rap styles covering broader range of subject matter than the narrow image that gets promoted by mainstream media sources. While what I do is certainly on the fringes of hip hop culture I have been told by other rappers who identify more strongly with that culture that my work "is hip hop"... for what that's worth...

That being said, you're right in recognizing that "rap" isn't a new thing. Rhythmic storytelling goes back to the beginning of human oral tradition.

Anyway, glad to expose some people to new stuff. I hope you'll stay tuned for part 2 - there will be a host of new monsters!!

"Rhythmic storytelling", I love that!  Perfect phrase to describe what you do in this.  On one hand it gives the video a new current feel yet it has an ancient feel to it also which really fits the story you are telling.

Anyway, glad to expose some people to new stuff. I hope you'll stay tuned for part 2 - there will be a host of new monsters!!
We love being exposed! Yep make sure you let us know when you get part 2 done.

Wow, that was quite simply stunning. I did not expect that level of professionalism and I really dig the piece lyrically as much as visually.

Is there a greater passion for you? Puppetry v music or do the two go hand in hand in terms of creative outlets?

I hope you don't mind me asking and if it's rude to do so, please ignore the question, but when you reference a relatively tiny budget, how relatively tiny are we talking? I just can't imagine how you could produce something of that quality without outlaying much.

AaronTV, not sure where in Aus you are but I've never seen anything quite so beautiful as that during my travels!
