Attempted my first puppet Posted by Alex82 on May 05, 2014
So, I decided to try out the Project Puppet Roly puppet today. It went ok seeing as I have not touched needle and thread, sewing machine etc since school! And only ever used a glue gun once!

I am not 100% happy with the results, you can see some seems and the hair was a good idea but I needed 4 times as much so it is looking pretty poor and I will need to make more.

This was just a trial, quick and simple. I will concentrate more on the next one but I wanted to do one, make mistakes etc so next time I am ready for the tricky bits!!

Anyway here he is...

I don't know, I think he looks pretty good   Love the eyes for a first attempt, that is one area I still struggle with.  How did you do the hair?

How did you do the hair?

Thanks

Embroidery thread, 3 strands, 2 yellow, 1 orange platted. There are 18 plats on his head, could do with another 60 to make it look better byt my arms were aching!!.

I think he looks pretty cool. I like his nose. Did you give him/her a name?

I think it look good as well, especially for a first attempt.  I struggle with the eyes as well. Try putting the pupils on last, slightly cross eyed towards the nose. I've found the camera tells all, so take a photo then reposition the pupils based on the results.

Sparsity of hair is not a problem...just depends on the look you are going for.

Not bad for a first puppet! I like how you did the hair and while yes I can see how having more would me nice it really did not bother me that much that it was sparse. Can't wait to see your next one!

Awesome first attempt. Way better than my first attempt. It looks like you have all the basics down pretty well. All you need to do is fine tune your craft with a little practice. I've made about 6 puppets now and it seems like every one is better than the last in some way. I'm willing to bet you'll be surprised by how easy the second one will be.

Thanks for all the replies, really appreciate them.

I didn't name him maybe I should! I am not good naming things!

Going to stock up on supplies and take my time and do another one soon-ish. I cannot decide if I want to do another Roly or go straight onto the Punto pattern. I am thinking I should do another Roly to work on my techniques etc first!

Thanks again guys could not have got this far without such a friendly community
