Blinking Eyes with littleBits Servo Posted by jeffbragg on Jul 05, 2014
Hi folks. Here's link to a short video of my littleBits based, self-contained, pressure,sensor-controlled eye blink mechanism designed to fit a puppet head. The ring finger triggers the blinking.

Cool. That noise is kind of loud, so would you use this in a video and add sound later?  Or is there a lubricant that you can use to lower the sound?  I ask because I have a robotic puppet I bought that suddenly is making louder noise when the eyes blink and I am wondering if there is something I can do to make it quieter, it is very distracting.

Really cool. I'm currently experimenting with my first eye mech at the moment, nothing as advanced as this. Thank you for sharing.

Pretty cool Jeff, saw it over at FB when you posted.

Snail, I did some quick research on servos and as I expected they pretty much all make noise. I would imagine that once Jeff encases the above mech in the head of a puppet though that the noise is not going to be as noticeable. In fact on one radio control site enclosing the mech in foam was one of the suggestions to damper noise. Depending on the type of servo it is you can get servo grease for the gears.

Very impressive. Is there any way to make the servo sound quieter? Really nice work!!!
