Wow you got a twit from Kirk! How cool is that.

Lol..yeah its awesome . He is a great guy, have asked two questions since following him and he has answered both . He seems real interactive with his fans. So of course I had to ask for advice on this contest.

I was debating entering but was waiting on inspiration. And the ADD never fails. Got a creature concept complete with back story that I'm really excited about. Of course, I have about 8-10 puppets I need to make for a convention first. So the trick now is forcing myself to work on those first!!

What a pity I'm not into creature building. And don't have money for it. That sounds like a fun contest! I hope those who plan on entering post some lovely pics for the rest of us to enjoy.
Odd though that the rules seem to imply anyone can join from any country*, but the prize is decidely for those who can get around to the US. The travel allowance wouldn't really cover costs of getting there from outside the continent.
Fun fact: Skeksis feature in 'Farscape', the sci fi show by Brian Henson. They are not called Skeksis, but certainly seem inspired by them. I'm pretty sure somewhere in the show there is a nod to them in another way, but my brain is failing me on that... Anyway, I mention it because they have some good close ups of the Skeksis-like creatures in the show, especially the way their mouths are hinged. Worthwhile viewing for anyone who needs a little extra inspiration.
*Exceptions for 'those on an embargo list'

Yes I agree Na, prize definitely is not helpful to anyone living outside the US. With only a $500 travel allowance and the cost of flights to the US not to mention the build value its really not for anyone on a tight budget.

I expect they'll attract a lot of already-known and highly-paid puppet builders from around the world, but they'd get far fewer responses from less reputable (but just as good) people. Maybe this is a win/win for them: the higher in professionalism their applicants are, the more likely they'll have a wide range of good publicity for the movie.
Still, it sucks because I can imagine there would be a rather large contingent of puppet makers within Europe, Asia, Australia and elsewhere that would want to apply and win.
