An experiment in recycling styrofoam Posted by Anton's Angels on Aug 08, 2014
So I thought I would try an experiment in recycling the plastic from Styrofoam packing to make puppet eyes.
1. Reduced the foam down using acetone. (done outside)

2. Til just the plastic left

3. Left til it became a putty-like consistency

4. Pressed the putty into desert spoons and a large ladle to make eye shapes. Used baby powder to stop any sticking

5. Leave to dry

Hope to see the result.  I can see many applications for this.  Thanks!

I agree... can't wait to see your results!   How bad where the fumes when you where reducing down the plastic?  I assume that is why you where doing it outside.

This is fascinating. I hope it's not dangerous. Can't wait to see the finished product.

I think maybe the big thing to be aware of would be the fumes. Normally with chemical reactions the fumes that are released are toxic. This would be considered a chemical reaction.   Same thing can happen when you use a hot knife on poly or styro foam.
