Free puppet books to those who want them Posted by Na on Sep 27, 2014
Hi all,
Doing more spring cleaning and I am getting rid of puppet books I don't use. For members here I am offering them for free, just pay for shipping if you want them. Let me know what you want and I will calculate shipping for you.
1. The world of puppets - hand puppets, marionettes, shadow puppets - from ancient Egypt to modern day America to Malaysia - by Rene Simmen and Leonardo Bezzol. Second hand, in good condition.
2. Puppets and plays - by Marjorie Batchelder and Virginia Lee Comer. Second hand, good condition.
3. Modern puppetry - by A R Philpott. Second hand, good condition.
4. Art of the puppet - by Bil Baird. Second hand, good condition.
5. The puppet - Do it yourself book - by Lois H Pratt. Second hand, good condition.
6. Hand puppets and string puppets - by Waldo S Lanchester. Second hand, good condition. Comes with diagrams of marionettes!
7. Molding and casting handbook - by Thurston James. Brand new, never been opened.
8. A second bench book of puppetry - by H W Whanslaw. Second hand, good condition.
9. A copy of Australian Puppeteer, the magazine produced by our local UNIMA Centre. Circa 2011. Comes with paper marionette instructions and pieces. Also contains reports of local puppetry, reviews, history, etc.
10. The Foam Book, 2nd ed. Brand new, never been opened, still in its packaging.
New lot of books...
1. Making and manipulating marionettes, by David Currell. New, good condition.
2. Puppet rampage 2007 workshop manual. Workshop notes from American puppet festival (I didn't attend it, it was on sale at another festival \ ) Brand new, good condition. Comes in binder.
3. Puppeteers of America directory. 2009-2010. Brand new, good condition. Yellow pages for American puppeteers.
7. Stray sock sewing. Brand new, good condition. Make sock toys.
8. Puppet mania by John Kennedy. Brand new, good condition. Good book, but a bit too kiddie for me. Has low tech ideas for blinking eyes, rod puppets, etc. Very cute stuff!
9. Expert puppet technique, by Eric Bramall and Christopher C Somerville. Second-hand, good condition. Runs through writing, staging, etc. for either glove or marionette puppets... can't remember.
10. Let there be... blacklight! by Todd Liebenow and Dave Privett. New, good condition. Blacklight from a mostly ministry point of view, has lots of basics of how to do UV puppets.

Hmm, i will update the post later to reflect the changes. In the meantime... Sorry you missed out on the book. I do have another copy, albeit my used first edition that i bought for myself. I may not keep it since i no longer wish to work with foam and i think i understand enough of the basics now that i wouldnt really use it as a resource. ... If i can dig it up, do you want it? Other than some cover wear and pencilled notes, i think it's probably in good shape.

Wanting to do a major clean out of stuff and not wanting the hassle of pricing/negotiating/waiting for buyers/advertising fees/buyers pulling out.... Or generously donating wares?

Sorry, got caught up with doing my taxes.
Have gotten out the book and will look it over to make sure it's not too dinged up. I know once I got the hang of it, I didn't really reference the book anymore. But I always think having books around, even if you know the principles, is a good thing because then you can browse through when you get stuck for ideas. Plus, in this country finding puppet books is a challenge in itself. I collected my stack mostly from eBay or Amazon, and over a number of years.
But...
I will be posting more books today or tomorrow. In digging out my copy, I found the rest of my puppet books and there's some more that I probably won't want. I need to sort through them properly so hold off on payments until then as there may be something else that interests you.
P.S I am alright. Having good days and bad days, as expected. Mostly keeping myself occupied working on the poster from my campaign, which is about 70% done.

Original post now updated with 10 more books. Get 'em while they're available!
Also Shannon, here's a pic of the Foam Book. As you can see it's a bit worn, but other than the cover it's in good shape.
