Creativesoultv, my first book recommendation would be Puppets and Puppet Theatre by David Currell, which covers basic info about different types of puppets, staging, lighting, etc. It has lots of pics and makes for a good reference no matter what style you're into.

I would also recommend Hansjurgen Fettig's rod puppet book (hope I'm remembering his name right, too lazy to look it up), which is extremely rare but a goldmine on facial design, mechanical construction and others things.

Na, I'm glad you're feeling much better! Also, thank you for the book recommendations, I have seen the rod puppets by Hansjurgen and think they are amazing. I'm learning all I can to educate myself on the different art forms of puppetry,

I will also search for your reviews too.

If you're going for muppet-type stuff, which is what most are interested in, my fav is the Foam Book, which a lot of people use too.

I did purchased the "Foam Book" DVD and love it!

You're welcome! And I'm back to my usual self again, or as close to it

I must remember to go through my Hansjurgen copy again, I've had it stored up while I was in the process of moving my work space and I've only just unpacked it again after a couple of years. It's my most precious book, not because of the content but because it was stolen (!!) out of my mailbox and luckily returned to me once the cops caught up with the perpetrators.

And I loved the Foam Book too. It really gave me the confidence to think that I could pull off puppet making without any real-world instructions. I'd always assumed puppetry was learned through internships or workshops and that books could offer technical advice but not really any sort of thing you could practically put in place. I'm so glad I was wrong because there's no workshops here so I'd have been left figuring out puppetry on my own otherwise.
