I found this web http://www.wintercroft.com/shop were you can download printable paper masks, mainly animal heads. Although they are not free, I think they can be a good resource for animal puppet heads tranferring the shapes to foam.

I think  you may be right. Could give you a base that you then could add on top of to smooth out the lines.
