Hi folks , I have really enjoyed all of you here on pns. But do to a debilitating injury I can no longer make and work puppets. So all my puppet making stuff has to go.  I have antron fleece, stick on vinyl, and lots more. I will get everything together. Again thank you.

Will you be selling your items here on P&S, EBay, or another website.

Sorry I had not gotten back to you all sooner, But Billy has inspired me to hang on to it  all a little longer. Forgive me for a hasty decision. I just can't bring myself to give it up. Thanks for understanding.    How ever I do have several doll patterns, arm rods, ping pong balls, assorted material if anyone is interested. And a copy of the Foam Book. Thanks Guys

Wise decision! there's nothing wrong with selling supplies that you are not using to make room for those you do need!

I am sorry to hear of your injury and glad you've decided to persevere! I am so enjoying this new creative project and hope that perhaps when you can ease back into it, you will find joy and rejuvenation through the effort. As a new puppet artist, I have read countless recommendations for the Foam Book so I'd happily purchase your copy if you're sure you're ready to pass it on.  Hang in there!

... yes do hang in there. Puppets, with all its facets, can be very theraputic. I also think one occasionally has phases of throwing in the towel, but you kep coming back. Take a good long breath, and hopefully you will begin to potter around again.

Thank you for the confidence boost, I actually worked a little today. LOL :-0

I'm glad to hear that you are re-thinking things. I've been on a four year hiatus, but I still dream about getting re-started, and am confident it will happen. I'll probably leave hand-in-mouth puppets and take a try at rod puppets. I've been studying what I can from Hansjurgen Fettig and Hobey Ford, as well as marionette mechanics to see what niftiness I can create.

It may be a few more years, but I think there are still a few more puppets just aching to escape my brain!

Even just dreaming about it cheers me up!

I have never done rod puppets. Is there a place to see how they work. I truly love marionettes but I am not a good sculptor.(of course). I am determined to make my nosy neighbor puppet. I actually felt well enough today to make the eyes. Yeah!!

Here is a very brief video, with a very tiny, tiny rod puppet by Hobey Ford.

Also with Hobey Ford:

Here is an interview with Hansjurgen Fettig (regrettably in French). He demonstrates a puppet or two. These are very fancy rod puppets. They can certainly be much simpler.

Here is a clip from Russia's premier puppeteer, Sergei Obraztsov

I particularly like this clip from the show "An Unusual Concert" because it shows the 6-7 puppeteers required to pull of the dance.

Some much simpler rod puppets

From Indonesia, their traditional rod puppetry, Wayang Golek

Three of America's most famous rod puppets:

José Jalapeño

Pepé Prawn

and Rizzo Rat

Something as simple as a wooden spoon from the kitchen with a face drawn on it with a sharpie can be a rod puppet.

This isn't exhaustive by any means, but the various videos show the variety rod puppetry has to offer.

Hand-in-mouth type puppets like the Muppets remain the most typical in the U.S. Jim Henson had a huge influence on puppetry in America. Up to now, that's all I have done, and I'm really interested in exploring other methods.

Na has also interested me in shadow puppetry, and I'm developing (in my head, so far) a show from on old northwest Native American story using both shadow puppetry and a very, very simple rod puppetry at the same time.

Hope all this helps.
