Re: Puppet microphone tests: Need help figuring out what's going on Posted by mrbumblepants on Dec 21, 2014
My roommate let me use his camera connection kit, which let me record sound directly into the microphone. So here's a test for that:

If this works, I may be using this method most often, because it is minimal fuss. My husband and I are hoping to start up our fancier puppet videos soon, and I think I'll be using Audacity for that - so I'll still be learning to use the program regardless.

I think that it sounds less harsh when the microphone is plugged directly in, so as long as people can hear it, I think I'm very for this route.

HI Chris, and anyone else. My apologies for not getting back to you sooner with a link. I thought I had the .ISO file uploaded, but  could not find it, so I had to remaster, (adding a lip syncing dope sheet program) and upload again, which took some doing at this time of year. Anyway, the link to the Puppy .ISO is  http://1drv.ms/1xY4lGZ .It is 395mb. Just download it and burn it with your ISO burning  setup to a CD, then boot off the CD. (you can install it to a USB memory stick later if you wish)
It has Blender 2.66 , Gimp 2.8, Audacity 2.0.2 , pencil 4.4b , Cinelerra 2.2cv, Inkscape 0.48 , Synfig 0.64.1 , and JLipSync (in the file>my-applications folder ...read the readme.txt to learn how to open it)  plus all the usual puppy installed programs.
   Have fun with it.

Thanks so much! I have an older desktop computer whose Windows has pretty well crashed, so I'll give Linux a shot at it. It would be nice to have this computer available again!

I can't believe you used to used Corel, me too, don't miss those programs. People I work with still wine about missing Paradox, I say good riddance!!! I like Audacity because my sons knew how to do everything I needed before me, so I got a fast start. My three sons got their first computer skills cataloging my scripts, and song tracks. My hearing is bad so sound is the part of my shows I had to have help with, I can't tell if the sound is loud enough and I can't hear high pitches. I did notice that the sound level check before the show in empty room changed dramatically when the room was full of bodies. Pays to have someone with good ears adjust for the size of the crowd. I wonder if there is a formula for increase in volume per body? Surely there is a meter I could read instead of trusting my ears.  Hope you get your sound worked out, so important.
