Re: Doing a puppet video every day, using a fortune telling character. Posted by mrbumblepants on Jan 07, 2015
Unfortunately, the studio has flooded a little bit. Nothing has been damaged except the carpet, but this does delay our move in by a week. I'm pretty disappointed - but I am keeping in mind that it's not so bad. In the mean time, I'm going to try to change things around and see if I can't eliminate my shadow from showing up on the screen.

I am also noticing that the voice I'm using for this puppet is straining my voice, even though I am also doing voice exercises every day. I need to figure out how to do this or a similar voice without causing any tension in my throat.

Wow, filming a video a day, that is a big commitment. Interesting concept on the cards. People in your group write random stuff on the cards? and then what do you do with them? It sounds interesting. I tried that sort of thing in writing a computer program. I wrote a whole list of things in different categories and had a random selector to grab things from the different categories. Doing the lists wore me out and it ended up fairly basic, but the concept was there.  Your technique is improving, the character is getting more  solid. The more you do it, the better you will get.

It's just me doing it, so I do the drawings on the cards. I've started tailoring them to the day's fortune a little bit more, because I've hit on a style that I like.
I really enjoy where the character is going. I'm working out issues with the voice, since the way I was doing it before was straining my throat muscles. I think I've got it down, though.

So far I haven't done it every day, and will shortly be switching to only doing it Monday through Friday. We'll only be heading to the art studio on weekdays, and I would prefer to film there rather than out the house. That'll give me the weekend for planning out new episodes and refreshing, so I think it'll work out good.

I'll be taking this long weekend off of puppet videos, and might have to skip the whole week. One the shop is open, I have to make the blue screen. Also have to make backgrounds for my current puppets, which I can do now. And then there are the props I've been procrastinating on... Hoping I can get back to filming by Tuesday, though.
