Does anybody have any ideas on a puppet stand (pvc or otherwise) that they use to pose their puppets when taking photographs?

I used plastic coke bottles and then we drank the code later too.  For photos used metal paper clamps to hold the mouths inside so they were closed part way so you can see the inside of the mouth a little.  Not fancy but it worked for me.

Ah the clip idea is good! Stop the puppets from looking like they are constantly yawning.
I should say that the puppets I am building are vent style: so a hole in the back (rather than the bottom) and full body with legs so I cant just slip the puppet over something.

We have used Photoshop to erase the puppeteer's arm to get a more lifelike pose. My favorite shots are seeing my sons big smiles while they work the puppets but it kind of takes the focus off the puppet for me. If you want a sitting pose maybe a child's wooden chair with attachment to back of chair to snake inside the puppet like your arm would. Maybe an S type shape of wood that could hold the clamp and pivot so the head could tilt a little would be more life like.

I have a stand made from a wooden board and a table leg (something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Basyx-4-Post-Table-8-Inch-Diameter/dp/B000ZPIQ3I/ref=sr_1_32?ie=UTF8&qid=1424010896&sr=8-32&keywords=table+leg). The table leg is long enough to reach the head when the puppet is sitting down - if I want the puppet to stand upright I extend the table leg with a screw.

For travelling, I use a monopod.

Mouth clamps I just make with armature wire and gaffers tape.

I've also picked up cheap doll stands from the fabric stores. They are metal with a slide to adjust height. Nothing fancy maybe $5 a piece I forget. I'll dig one up from the workshop later and take a pic to post so you know what to look for.

These can be found in Spotlight if you want them Anton.
