Zathras the Rat Posted by Shirik on Mar 06, 2015
This was a project I started a long time ago (2 years in fact) and nearly got him finished but due to unforseen circumstances he ended up on the backburner for a while. I pulled him from storage this week to finish him off as I felt bad for leaving him so long!!
Reference sheet for the character - this puppet was for a friend and they provided the reference for me to work from
The head was made using the Project Puppet Simple Sock Puppet pattern with several modifications - the pattern itself was heavily modified and transferred to foam then using additional foam I built up cheeks and "dimples" to modify the shape of the head. Head was then taped over in packing tape to make a pattern for the fabric.
Body was patterned and sewn, again based on PP Simple sock puppet pattern but modified to include the belly patch. The tail was sewn separately out of fur and fleece and then ladder stitched on.
This is where my WIP shots jump I'm afraid!
Arms were sewn and ladder stitched on (person he's for didn't want arm rods), head was furred, fur shaved lightly on the muzzle and attached to body and then eyes, ears and teeth were installed.
FINISHED! Eye shines added to eyes, paint details added to ears and nose and tongue installed!
