Derpy Hooves Posted by Shirik on Mar 09, 2015
I'm not going to deny it - I'm a big My Little Pony fan. I realised I had all the materials for this build kicking around my work room and with my partner being away this week I have a lot of spare time in the evenings during my "relaxing" time. So I relax from sewing all day by... sewing all evening. That works somehow.
Anyway. I decided to make Derpy Hooves - one of the more popular background characters from the show.
I started out by making the foam skull - the skull is actually double layered (thin EVA foam under upholstery foam) as I prefer the feel of EVA over upholstery. I used the Project Puppet Glorified sock as a base to get started (I promise I will deviate from this pattern at some point).
This then got taped over for patterning.
The body pieces got cut from seal fur fabric and then using the appliqué sewing technique I made her "cutie mark" (rump symbol).
Body then got sewn up
I patterned some wings on paper and then sewed them up!
I then made the hooves and her tail using a simple pattern and attached the parts to the body.
The head pattern got transferred to fabric, cut out and sewn. I put the pattern over the foam skull - nothing is glued etc yet and the mouth plate hasnt been installed yet.
I've burnt myself out for this evening! Going to pick her back up tomorrow night.
