I am busy building myself a replica of Bert from Sesame Street. So far his head is basically done and finished, but now I have a bit of a hassle. How can one attach his hair? Any ideas for me?

Just sew on a tuft of fake fur. You could even glue it on if you want.

I would use the longest fake fur and cut it in a small circle. I would sew it by hand around the edge of circle turning under the edges as you go. You can always cut it to the length you want later. If you were to sew it in a straight line in the top opening then it would look flat and it does not look flat to me in pictures of Bert.  Also in the past when I sewed fake fur in a straight seam on top of a narrow head point like Bert's it seemed to flop over on me at the seam.  So if you have the base a little wider around the top of the head it might give it more stability over long use to keep his hair upright. Or alternately if you have an open seam now you could insert more of the fake fur edge inside the seam for stability.  You could trim the fur from the seam allowance to reduce bulk in seam, but I would still sew in a circle instead of a straight line.  He looks beautiful now, good luck with the hair.

Thanks everyone for the feedback! I managed to get hold of some fur that actually looks very hair-like over the weekend, so I will hopefully get it sewn on this week some time. Will post pics once I've managed

I managed to get his hair on last night, so his head is all done I'm quite chuffed with the results, thank you to everyone who gave me advice. Now on to the body!
