Puppet movement has a lot of blur. Any ideas? Posted by esaudio on Nov 10, 2015
Hi,
I am new to puppets, so I don't even qualify as an amateur as you will see by the movement of my puppet. However, I have recorded for a couple of years and have had no problem to shoot with a green screen when it comes to real people. But I have been experimenting with puppets and the motion blur I get is horrible. I am trying to shoowt manual, with a frame rate of 24 and shutter speed of 50. Here is the video.
I would appreciate it a lot if you could help me see where I am going wrong as I am at complete loss. Thanks! Julio

If you're filming at the same frame rate with the puppet as you would a human it should produce the same result. I imagine hands have a lot more movement though, than a person's head. So is it perhaps that if you slowed the movement of the character's head, it would be more similar to a human's?
Personally I didn't think the motion blur was too bad. What does it look like with different backgrounds?

I agree with Gareth. Humans don't tend to move as much as your puppet moves. A great difference in live performance and video is video movement is a lot more subtle.
