Felt Quest - puppets playing RPGs Posted by wogoat on Jun 28, 2016
I've been working for nearly a year on this project and last week I finally did my first day of filming.

The basic concept is puppet versions of fantasy adventure character archetypes attempt to play roleplaying games (ala Dungeons and Dragons) during their downtime.  I've filmed most of the footage for a pilot episode and am beginning the process of editing it.

There were a total of eight puppets created for this, although only four even appear in the footage shot so far.  I hope to upload images of the individual puppets along with some insights into the design and creation.

I've built a few puppets off and on over the past 10 years, but this is by far the biggest scale production I have ever attempted and am excited that it is finally bearing fruit!

This is my first production still:

A few more screen capture images that show off the puppets a little better:

I like this concept. I know there are at least two "toy/puppet" centric systems out there. What system are you running for the game?

It's never explicit so far what they're actually playing.  It's not the puppets actually playing a game, but more of a series of skits of how things go horribly wrong when they try to play.

The books we've been using as props are all Dungeons and Dragons, but if the pilot goes well one of the things I plan on doing is making covers for a fictional system that they are playing.  Given the opportunity, I'd love to recreate classic GM screen designs with all the characters drawn as puppets instead.

It's been a while, but I finally have the pilot episode I created for this project online.  You can view it on YouTube!

I hope you enjoy!

Awesome!

I ended up making 8 puppets for this project, four of which never even show up in the video I made.
Hopefully I'll be able to use them for a later episode or production.

I like the richness of character in the voices, script, and variety of puppets, very interesting.  Looks like you all were having a lot of fun.

I was very fortunate to be able to work with some talented voice actors, one of whom already had some puppetry experience.

Response has been pretty positive so far, I really hope I get to make more soon.

I really like the project, nice script and voices, original idea, I will added to my puppets blog to promote.

I know is the first one but care the direction of the puppets (not an easy task), sometimes they look dead or looking to ceiling, they need to use a little bit more the hands because they are still in a floating position.

I hope this help to make it better, I had to watch it twice because I like it. LOL
