X and Y - a science based puppet show Posted by oneoddegg on Dec 02, 2016
Hey everyone. Wanted to share my latest. It's a science based puppet show. I've got two episodes out with my little guys exploring the planets. Many more will come and once they "land" on Earth they will cover a lot of different science based topics. The show is still evolving, and there will be more characters introduced as time goes on. It is geared towards children but I hope some adults will enjoy it as well.

Very well done. Great graphics. Really love the puppets. I do wonder if Y is correct that there is not enough "action". It did keep my attention but wonder if a youngster might loose interest. What age group where you going for? I do like all the information that is given in the videos. I also like that you've included both types of measurements. I've never really been able to get my head to really wrap around the standards of Metric or Celsius this gives nice reference.
I got a slight shadowing of the upper and lower part of the video. Was that intended? On my screen it made it a bit hard to see the characters at times.
Overall I think you have a winner!

Thank you Shawn! And thanks for the critique. As far as the age group, there is none specifically. Raising kids myself I have a hard time buying into what is age appropriate and what is not (other than sex and violence perhaps). I think kids are a lot more sophisticated than a lot of adults give them credit for
There is a vignette added, maybe that is causing some issues. I will consider losing it in future episodes. I have noticed that it can be a bit hard to see the show on some other people's monitors. I will have to adjust that, again, in future episodes.
It's tough deciding what to put on the show. Since it is supposed to be informative and contain a story, it's tough to balance both while at the same time including relevant information and keeping it short enough that people don't get bored before it's over. Still working on the balance and plan to add more "action" in the future.
Thanks again!!
oh - the shading that you might be talking about is simply that the light streaming in through their cockpit window is shining on just a part of them. Maybe this is what you mean?

I wondered if the "shading" was actually the light streaming in. It is not as noticeable on other monitors I checked it on. Glad you did not take my critique negatively. You really do have a good thing going and I look forward to seeing future episodes.

I enjoyed those very much. I tend to agree with you about audience age group. Kids are smarter than adults give them credit for. Cool graphics (and textures). Did you generate them yourself? Seamless composites. Well done.

Thank you pagestep! Yes, everything you see and hear (a few sound effects from freesound.org) was made by me.
