Fleece patterning help? Posted by sjham on Mar 04, 2017
Hi all,

I'm working on a replica of Trekkie monster from Avenue Q and I'm having a lot of trouble trying to create the fabric pattern for his fur. This is what I have so far:

(I think the eyes are too big for Trekkie....what do you think?)

I'm not sure how to pattern the lower jaw of the foam head. I was trying to do the top head and the jaw as separate patterns and then somehow merge them together, but its a mess right now.
I'm also worried about the darts. I think they are very big and could cause
the fur to go into different directions and make it look messy. I also have no clue about how much fabric to leave for the neck when I have to attach the head to the body :/

Could anyone give me some tips/advice/criticism on how to make a good fleece pattern for this head? Here's some pictures of the foam head if that may help: http://imgur.com/a/Jbs1k \

Thank you!

Your darts should be fine. Fur hides a multitude of sins. Should be no issue with cutting the bottom jaw separate, just sew it to the top. Just treat it like a dart. The neck can also be a separate piece, in fact you might want to make the neck part of the body pattern then sew that into the head. Again the fur will hide your seams and you can brush the fur to make a smooth transition.
