Unusual head shape Posted by ThijsL on Apr 14, 2017
Hey,

I'm trying to replicate a puppet character from an 80's tv-show. I'm kinda new to the muppet building scene and i would appreciate if someone could give me some tips and tricks on the shape of the head and mouth. I've added a moodboard with different viewing angles of the head, so that you've got a general idea how it's supposed to look like.

Thank you!

The mouth looks much like a sock puppet mouth but more squared off. As if you cut the foot part off a tube sock straight across, cut slits up the side and inserted rectangular inner mouth. It does not look like it has a hard mouth plate but soft and flexible at least on the fabric puppets.  It looks to me like the upper stuffed head may be added on to the tube because of the way the mouth seems to have a seam at the back side rather than sloping up from the upper lip to the top of the head.

Wow, I had to watch a show because I didn't know the character. Strange head and ears. The mouth is like a kitchen glove. LOL
