Puppetry to support core values Posted by Sandra on Jun 17, 2017
Hi all,
These days, I am trying to create my marionettes by keeping my footprint on the planet as small as possible. I try to buy the items that I need in stores I go to, and I try not to buy online as much as possible. I want to learn how to do my own paper clay (which I am on the right track for) as well as recycle as much as I can to create my art. I am wondering if others like you are aware of the impact you are having on this world (and not just in people's consciousness with your wonderful creations) each time you start a new project? I may be the only one for now who does that, and I hope to be able to become good at making my marionette and then when I will get more attention for my work, to spread the message of my environmental calling.

What about you guys?
Puppet hug to all!

It is totally possible to use "what you have on hand" when building puppets. A prime example of this is Philip aka pagestep007. He lives in an area where it is hard to get the things that many puppet builders rely on here in the US. Dolores Hadley, the master puppeteer I learned from was the same. Her marionettes where papermache' and considered some of the finest works in the industry.

Thank you for your testimony Shawn. I wish I had a master puppeteer to learn from, but that is impossible in my case. I would say that what I am trying to do now I learned from you Shawn when you did that ball joint tutorial many years ago on BlogTV. Right now my marionette doesn't have one, but my next one will as the one I am working on now was the one I started back them and I did not even have access to little wooden men. I think it was Billy that send me some, or somebody else from PnS. I still have them and will put them to great use in future projects. This is how I learn, from what I see online. But my environmental principles are key in everything that I do. I want to create by lowering my carbon footprint and hopefully, teach what I am learning to others someday and teach them how important it is to respect our core principles and values.
I will check out who your master puppeteer was, maybe I could find a few more secrets along the way :D

Just in case anyone is wondering about those long ago BlogTV tutorials I did, they are saved now on YouTube.  https://www.youtube.com/user/puppetsandstuff/videos

I hope that you do not mind but I kept a copy of those on my computer for safe keeping, just in case I want to refer to them and I don't have internet access.

I don't mind at all.  It is always a good idea for folks to save resources they have found on their own computer. Never know when it may become unavailable on the web.  Sites tend to come and go.  I am seeing a lot of lost information that was linked to now that I am going through and working on the new site for PandS.

Yeah, many links are not working anymore, which is sad but life goes one.
