feathers as covering fabric Posted by Floydaroo on Feb 23, 2018
Hey guys! I have been wondering about how many feathers (by approximate weight) I would need to cover an entire bird puppet. Also, how would I go about attatching the feathers to the fabric... sewing? thanks guys...
BTW: I plan to use 2-3 inch mini ostritch feathers.

I really have no idea how to calculate this. My best guess for figuring out would be to cover a small square foot of fabric with the feathers then use that multiplied by how much fabric you think you are going to need. Yes you can sew them to the fabric which would be the most secure method. I've covered parts of puppets using feather boas. The nice thing about them is that there is a twisted cored running down the center. You can pull back the feathers and stitch that core to the fabric. Speeds things up and is fairly secure.
