Pool Noodle Puppet tutorial location Posted by lelier on Mar 09, 2019
Good evening!   My husband and I have been building a puppet team at our church and would love to have a couple of Hubie Tubies for the kids to work with. As I've looked for them I've seen that they are a bit out of our budget at this time.

I'm looking for a tutorial to make them.  I see where there was one in the archive here but isn't any longer.  Would anyone please tell use where we may find this information? We can see how they are made basically... but we can also see there are likely points that aren't so obvious.   THANK YOU!   Lisa and Mark Lier

Lisa and Mark,

You are correct that at one time there was some information on how to make a puppet out of pool noodles. Unfortunately we had to take it down because the creator of the original puppet has a copyright on it and asked that we remove the tutorial.  He felt it was hurting his business.

Well I can understand that in cases, except that I'm not going to buy his expensive puppet. I can't afford it! So my husband will figure out a way to make it anyway. Thanks for replying to us. Lisa and Mark

hmmm. Can't copyright a concept, so I am assuming it is a patent that the creator was talking about, but I can't seem to find the patent number on it. If concerned, change out the pool noodle for something similar. I one did the same concept but with nylon rope. Taking the pool noodle and doing something different to it, such as creating fabric sleeves, etc. Again,,, can't copyright a concept, so anything changed 15% or more is considered a derivative concept and thus no longer the original and can't be subject to a cease & desist unless proven in a court of law to be otherwise created for the purpose of malice. It is a stand up thing to do to honor the creator's request to pull it down though.
I understand price though. The last church I worked with paid out just under a grand for two and the quality was definitely not what I would have spent that much on. @ lelier, Sounds like your husband is pretty resourceful so all you have to do is watch youtube videos to figure out the concept.

Puppet Dude,

You are correct he really doesn't have a copyright on the concept which I did point out to him but in respect to him as a fellow puppeteer it was decided to remove the post.  In the original post in question there really where no specifics There are still some images from the post in question still available at: http://puppetsandstuff.com/community/index.php?action=gallery&g2_itemId=14161  Amy's original tutorial that was posted on PuppetBuilding.com site can be accessed via the Web Archive: http://web.archive.org/web/20070705144648/puppetbuilding.com/hand--rod-puppets/cowboy-cactus-puppet-tutorial.html
