Hey... I've got an old book about the Menehune around here somewhere. I guess it was written for tourists, but it has some great drawings. I have no idea where it is right now, but it's pretty fun - I'll have to dig it out if I can. The word the writer used to describe the Menehune was "leprechauns," but I can see that "fairy" might be a better one.

You're right Ron about a Menehune being very much like a leprechaun....I am going to have those, too.  I just want a Hawaiian theme and a girl marionette so I am creating my own Hawaiian fairy.  Ron....you are knowlegeable about  everything!!!

So....I walked into my "puppet room" to find my son and dog playing tug of war with my polymer clay marionette and the scene was so graphic that I cannot show you pictures of what she looks like now.  However, I mustered up the strength to sculpt a new and improved marionette.  This one is much smaller as her complete body will fit in the palm of my hand.  I have plans to sculpt a polymer clay flower for her to sit on as her stand and her manipulation mechanisms will be vines/flowers/twigs.  I just can't simply put a basic "airplane" control on her can I....hehe.

I am so sorry for your puppet loss.  It must have been heartbreaking after all of your hard work.

Your new sculpt is also beautiful!  I am in love with 1:12th scale miniatures and have tried scuplting a doll that samll many times.  I just don't have a knack for that tiny work.  Keep us posted on your new progress.

Ouch!  Hate that you lost the first version but glad you hear you jumped right back in.  I can't wait to see the finished piece.  You are keeping this new creation on a very high shelf... right?   The vine/flower/twig control really has me intrigued. 

Great come back, I'm sorry about the mishap. Those things do happen. My mothers dog got one of her porecelain dolls and gave it a makeover. I had to laugh  of course it was not my dog or my puppet. I love your new marionette. Can't wait for the finished product.

Commiserations

I don't have a dog but I do have a young son who can be destructive enough for both.  Isn't it funny how you find you have to put up ever higher shelving the older they get.  When does it stop! My mother reckons only when your kids leave home (and not even then).

I love the new elf, she looks wonderful.  Looking forward to seeing her flowers etc.
