Latest Puppet Posted by jomama on Mar 16, 2008
Hey all, I'd like to introduce you to the latest creation here at Higher Hands. Give a warm welcome to "Drew". Drew is approximately 24 inches tall, with poseable hands and removable arm rods. His head and body are separate and he has a comfortable grip in his mouth to hold your hand in place. Drew will be staring in a youtube video in the next week or so and I'll post the link at that time. Drew will also be available for sale once the video is done.

I'm right in the middle of an Easter project and won't be able to do any filming until after Easter. So check out his photos and tell me what you think.

Very cute!  I love that red hair on this head.  What did you use for the hair?

Happy Easter and can't wait to see the video.

I used funky "fur" I found at WalMart. It also comes in purple and light green. I love the look and feel of the hair. On the down side, the fuzzies from cutting the fabric float around for a while and if you wear contacts they attach to your eyeballs and that's a pain.

So I'm thinking of doing just an ad lib with Drew just chatting to give an idea of his character.

I really love him!!  The separate head from the body is an excellent feature. Much nicer to manipulate!! Did you make up the pattern you used? Can't wait to see him in action!!
Re: Latest Puppet Posted by jomama on Mar 16, 2008
Actually he is a compilation of various patterns I have that I have also modified to work better. It seems like every pattern I have ever used has some problem with it that makes the puppet harder to use than I like. I make one puppet from the pattern, then figure out how to make it better.

Yes the head separate is much nicer to manipulate and I am already making more changes to this pattern. I have small hands and arms and need to modify the body to fit my arm better. For an adult male or a taller person this puppet will work great, but for me his body fits down my arm farther than I would like.

I'm thinking of making a full body version. One to use Bunraku style and one to use as a vent figure.

LJ, since you are more experienced in ventriloquism, what do you look for in a soft figure? PM me if you want.
