Other creative outlets (computer graphics) Posted by Pletoo on Mar 20, 2008
Hi!

Does anyone here use Flash or Flex to create things? I ask because I have been alpha testing a place that revolves around player created content. It is about to go beta and I have a few invites. Eventually there will be tools included to make things but for now, the animated items are made with Flash or Flex. Non-animated items are basically flat images that look 3D, I've made some things using Paint on my computer.

There are some games there and it is a good place to hang out and chat, you can even start a group and have forums and a group hall to decorate. Also you can create personal rooms and fill it with furniture (that you made or bought from other players.) The 'rooms' are actually webpages, I've been thinking about creating a space there to display my puppets. Eventually creators will be able to earn a game currency that can be exchanged for real cash (probably not for a while yet.)  Anyway, if anyone is interested let me know (even if you don't use those programs - I don't - but I still find things to do.)

Well, the Whirled has now moved into open beta - you can check it out here:
http://www.whirled.com
It is free and easily customizable and has potential to be a good way to display your work. You can create a group (known as a whirled) that has its own group hall (basically a webpage) and forums. Plus each person gets one free room (which can certainly be used as a webpage also) and at the moment unlimited extra rooms are free too (not sure if that will change) all without random advertising banners

I plan on making a page to display all my puppets and a puppet whirled. I'll update with a link when I have gotten around to it it is on my list of many things that need doing

If you do come along, be sure to look me (Pletoo) up! :D

PS: The Flash and Flex that I mentioned are for those who wish to create games and animated avatars, but it is very easy to set up a webpage environment complete with links.
