is it possible to create a human sized puppet and control it while standing behind it
Re: wooden puppets Posted by StiqPuppet Productions on Mar 25, 2008
Of course you can!  I am not sure if solid carved out wood would be the best option for this style, due to the weight of wood, however their are many types of materials that can me used to make it light.

There are some great Utube video's to help you with some idea's.  I will have to do some looking myself to find a video to add here and others may have some ready to go.

Hope this gets you started.......

Re: wooden puppets Posted by Billy D. Fuller on Mar 25, 2008
I'm not sure that I have.................... What type puppets are they?

Here is another website of interesting puppets. They do all type puppets but feature life size puppets. Check out the full size horses.

You got some of the ones that I was looking for, thanks Billy.

I thought that I had them in U Tube under favorites but I couldn't find them for some reason.

I haven't really heard of Battle Puppets either.....do you have any links for us to see either pictures or video.  It sounds interesting but it has never come up at this sight so far.  We love to learn new things.

By battle puppets do you mean the Scillian Rod puppets.  These were in full armour and had clever constructions that meant that they were capable of losing limbs and heads during the battle on stage.

Most of the surviving puppets are in museums in the US as many of the troupes emigrated that way at the turn of the century

Tina Bicat in her book Puppets and Performing Objects: A Practical Guide looks at life size puppetry in several forms.

Best of luck,
