Avenue q help!!! Posted by Rootrage2 on Apr 14, 2008
Hey I'm a beggining puppet maker and I love the avenue q puppets and so I decided to try to make a Kate the slut puppet ( mix of kate monster and Lucy the slut) but  I have no idea how to make it can someone help me?

Well firstly you need to make the head, which is constructed out of foam & covered in fleece or fur. Do a search on this forum or take a trip to www.projectpuppet.com for puppet patterns. Alternatively you could try making your own patterns, but thats another topic. You need to do some google searches on how puppets are made if you have no idea as one topic would not cover it all.

Good Luck,
Cheers,
Dan

For puppet breasts, carve the shape out of two small blocks of foam , cover in fleece or fur and stitch to the torso

If your being authentic, antron fleece or high quality fur for monster puppets, but it is expensive.
If its your first one go for polar fleece you can find some good deals on ebay.

For getting started you can go with one of two options.  Purchase a pattern.  (Would recommend http//www.projectpuppet.com for this option as they have several head patterns to choose from and are reasonably priced.)  Or you can design your own puppet and make your own pattern.  (For this option I would start at http://swazzle.com/blogs/2006/03/puppet-building-tutorial-ratchet.html.  This link describes how to break down the design into its many parts so that you can build the puppet.  Of course your puppet will be different from the one in the tutorial but the process should be similar.

There are some other sites out there with great information and you can keep asking questions here.

My advise is to gather and much information as you can on puppet building and when you feel like you understand what you need to do then go out and buy your materials.  If you go off not having any idea what your doing you'll more than likely waste time, energy and money. There will be some of that in building your first puppet anyway but you can reduce it by doing your research in advance.

Most important have fun.

Oh yeah to post the picture of your project click on the "additional options" text to the bottom left of the reply screen this will give you the opption of attaching a picture to your text.
